Although it is not easy or fair to select some best beaches in the Greek islands, because each one has something very unique, we have gathered in this article our 5 favorite and most famous Greek beaches to present you.
# Myrtos beach in Kefalonia island
Myrtos is the most famous and photographed beach in Kefalonia. This is a huge bay surrounded by wild cliffs. Most of all, Myrtos distinguishes for its fantastic blue water that gets different shades as the seabed deepens. In fact, the seabed deepens very quickly, in just few steps from the coast. The shore has white pebbles and part of the beach is organized with sun beds and umbrellas. On one side of the beach, there is a small cave. Myrtos beach is found on the northern side of Kefalonia, very close to the picturesque village of Assos.
# Navagio Beach in Zakynthos island
This beach took its name from a wrecked ship that has been washed ashore, which is why it is also known as the Shipwreck Beach. This is a secluded bay on the northern side of Zakynthos island, accessible only by boat. In fact, there are excursion boats to Navagio beach from many parts of the island, such as Zakynthos Town, Alykes, Porto Vromi, Schinari and others. The exotic blue waters of this bay amaze visitors. To get a breathtaking view of Navagio beach go by car to the hill above.
# Balos beach in Crete
It is hard to believe that you can find such a Caribbean-like landscape in Greece. But indeed this is Balos beach in western Crete! Balos is actually a sea lagoon with sandy shores on the external side, in the borders with the Aegean Sea. Close to Balos is the rocky island of Gramvoussa with a Medieval Castle on top. Balos is accessible through a track road from Kissamos or with excursion boat from Chania Town or Kissamos.
# Porto Katsiki beach in Lefkada island
Lefkada is famous all over the world for its stunning beaches, found especially on the western side of the island. Porto Katsiki is a very impressive beach, a blue bay surrounded by white cliffs. The shore has white pebbles and the seabed deepens very quickly in just few steps. It is found on the southern side of Lefkada and gets very busy in July and August.
# Super Paradise beach in Mykonos island
Mykonos, the second most popular Greek destination, has some of the best beaches in the Greek islands. Super Paradise is probably the most beautiful beach on the island, with soft golden sand, crystal waters and relaxing atmosphere. Part of the beach is organized with sun beds, umbrellas, water sports and beach bars, while the rest is more quiet and secluded. Apart from private means, Super Paradise can be accessed by boat or bus from Mykonos Town.
