Due to the large number of islands in South Aegean, the combinations for island hopping are innumerable. Visitors can actually find many possible and convenient island tours to visit during their holidays. Considering South Aegean as the islands of South Cyclades and of Dodecanese, we hereby present some nice island combinations for vacations. Ferries are the best way to explore all the possible routes and get the best out of the experience.

# Santorini and Milos

Both these islands have volcanic background, which is why their landscape is so strange. Santorini has a sunken caldera where only the volcano top is visible, while Milos has two smaller volcanoes on the south of the island where many hiking trips are organized. They are both famous for their romantic atmosphere, which is why this is a nice island combination for couples and honeymooners.

This South Aegean island hopping is connected with many ferry companies, such as Sea Jets, Hellenic Seaways and Zante Ferries. Depending on the ferry type, the trip lasts from 2 to 5 hours.

# Kos and Kalymnos

A nice South Aegean island hopping is between Kos and Kalymnos. As Kos receives many charters and direct low-cost flights from many European airports, it serves as a nice transportation base to close islands of Dodecanese. Such a close island is Kalymnos, a place totally different and quieter than the popular resorts of Kos. Kalymnos is world-famous as a rock climbing destination and even a climbing festival takes place there every autumn.

Ferries to Kalymnos from Kos Town depart daily in summer and they are operated by Dodekanissos Seaways. The vessels of Dodekanisos are high-speed and make the route in 35 min. There is also another ferry to Kalymnos from the port of Mastichari in Kos that is operated by ANE Kalymnou ferry company and travel 3-4 times per day. The trip time from Mastihari to Kalymnos is 1h30.

# Patmos and Leros

These two small islands of Dodecanese are frequently combined for holidays due to their small distance and the short ferry trip between each other. Patmos island is famous for its religious importance as this was the place where Apostle John wrote the Book of Revelation. Leros island has a nice family-style with traditional villages and cosy beaches. These two islands of Dodecanese are daily connected by ferry and the trip is about 30-50 min.

A popular South Aegean island hopping is from Naxos to Amorgos. These are two islands of South Cyclades and both have relaxing atmosphere, Cycladic architecture and crystal beaches. Slightly more popular than Amorgos, Naxos is also a great destination for sports, including diving, windsurfing, kitesurfing, hiking and cycling. There is daily connection between these two islands with many ferry companies. . The trip duration depends on the ferry type.
