Skiathos, a beautiful island with lush greenery and exotic beaches, belongs to the Sporades complex in the Aegean and is among the most popular island destinations in Greece. Renowned for its golden beaches, the fertile vegetation and cosmopolitan atmosphere, the island is the perfect choice for all ages and types.
Although Skiathos is small in size, it attracts a large number of visitors each year due to its close proximity to the Greek mainland and the amazing pure landscape. Ferries to Skiathos from the mainland take approximately two hours, so the trip is quick and fun.
Skiathos island is mostly known for its superb sandy beaches. Exotic beaches with impressive backgrounds, secluded coves that stay peaceful even in high season, and lively beaches as well, are all offered in this amazing island. The most popular beaches, like the highly acclaimed Koukounaries, the busy Banana beach, Agia Paraskevi and Achladies, are located on the southern part of Skiathos.
Koukounaries, the most crowded beach in Skiathos island, is well organized with beach bars, umbrellas, sun chairs, cafeterias and water sports. A nice pine trees forest surrounds this sandy beach, exuding a fresh and pleasant aroma. A short distance from Koukounaries lies the sandy cove of Banana, with organized facilities and water sports. Another beautiful beach in Skiathos is Agia Paraskevi.
The most wonderful beach of Skiathos is Lalaria. Take the tour boat from the port of Skiathos Town and explore the amazing rock formations of this white-pebbled beach. Huge cliffs rise out of the deep crystalline sea, making Lalaria absolutely worth-visiting.
Skiathos Town is a picturesque village and the centre of activities on the island. It has a lot of nice restaurants, shops and a vivid nightlife. Visitors usually head to the Town in the evening to enjoy a relaxing drink or party in the modern bars. The most important sight to visit in Skiathos Town is the Museum of Alexandros Papadiamantis, which is housed in the family house of this famous Greek author.
Buses from the town go to all beaches in the southern part of the island, while from the town port, where ferries to Skiathos arrive, there are excursion boats to Lalaria Beach, Tsougria island, Skopelos and Alonissos.
